All of a sudden the start date for “The Paddle” is seeming very close and very real.  We are madly trying to create some awareness in the media of “The Cause” and emails are flying in all directions.  The past few weeks have been a mixture of training both in the gym and on the road as well as many hours glued to the computer.  A few weeks ago Manfred drove me to Richmond early one Saturday morning and I walked 35km home.  It was a great sense of relief when I arrived home seven hours later and still felt that there was probably another ten kilometres in me.

Over the past weeks I have also spoken to some community groups as well as potential sponsors.  I remember years ago making a comment about  public speaking.  “There was no way I could ever speak in front of groups of people”  It’s amazing what you can do when you have to.  Often the emotions get the better of me but I tell myself it’s because I am so passionate about it.  Really I’m just a big sook!!  If anyone thinks that it would be useful to have me speak to a group that you are involved in, then please contact me.

We have been fortunate in obtaining wonderful support along the way as far as accommodation for the land crew and myself.  Please have a look at our sponsors page and try and support them if you can.  We have been lucky to secure some beautiful houseboats along The Murray and I am looking forward to showing the crew a side of the river that they have never seen before.  Currently we have obtained pledges and donations in excess of $6,500 so people laugh when I tell them that we have treatment chair and 1 leg of a further chair.  Four chairs and three legs to go.

Fellow paddler Scott from Financial Life has also advised that for any loans that he writes associated with “Friends of the Cause” he will donate the bulk of any upfront commissions that he receives during 2010.  Have a look at the sponsors page for the link to his company.  Scott has also promised to paddle for a day or so with me.  I hope you have your winter woollies on Scott because it is going to be very very cold.
